Meet your guide at the Skógafoss car park. Gear check, briefing, and a final espresso from the waterfall café before we head up the stairs.
The first three hours follow the Skógá river past 26 named waterfalls. You will stop often for photos — the staircase section is the most photogenic in the country.
Picnic lunch at Baldvinsskáli hut, then onto the 2010 lava field. The craters still radiate a faint warmth — bring gloves if you want to touch the rock.
Cross the 1,100 m snowfield at the highest point. In clear weather the Atlantic is visible behind you and Þórsmörk opens below.
A steep 900 m drop into Heiðarhorn ridge and the Húsadalur valley. Hot meal and shower at Volcano Huts before the highland bus back to Reykjavík at 21:00.

This tour is suitable for most fitness levels:
This is a genuinely challenging hike. 25 km with 1,100 m of ascent at altitude, crossing snowfields, with weather that can turn fast. You must be comfortable with 10+ hours of walking and have hiked long distances before. We cancel and refund fully in weather that compromises safety — typical cancellation rate is about 15% of scheduled dates. An overnight option at Volcano Huts is available for an extra ISK 12,900 — ask when you book.
