Operated by
Family-owned glacier and volcano specialists operating from Vík í Mýrdal since 2012. What started as a husband-and-wife guiding team — Steinunn and Jón — has grown into a crew of twelve IFMGA-certified mountain guides who share an obsession with the ice beneath Mýrdalsjökull and Vatnajökull. Our safety record is impeccable: over 4,000 glacier excursions without a lost-time incident. Every guide carries a satellite communicator, avalanche beacon, and enough first-aid training to stabilise a patient in a crevasse. We run small groups — never more than six guests per vehicle — because the ice deserves your full attention, and you deserve a guide who knows your name. When we're not on the glacier, we maintain a fleet of modified Toyota Land Cruisers purpose-built for Iceland's highland tracks, support local search-and-rescue volunteers in Suðurland, and work with glaciologists from the University of Iceland to monitor ice-cave stability each season. Vík is our home, and the landscape around it is our life's work.
Collect you from your Reykjavík hotel or apartment in the super jeep.
Air-down the tyres at the Sigalda hydro dam and drop onto the F208.
Park at the campsite.
Hot soup and lamb wraps back at the jeep, then a short drive to Ljótipollur for the brick-red crater lake photo stop.
A final detour through the Hnausapollur crater and a panorama of Hekla volcano on the drive back to Reykjavík, arriving around 19:00.

“Tough hike, honestly tougher than I expected despite all their warnings — 25 km with 1,100 m of climb is no joke. But what a walk. The waterfall staircase at the start, the still-warm lava around the Magni crater, and the descent into Þórsmörk that opens up all at once. Our guide Jón paced us perfectly and never once made us feel rushed. Dropped half a star only because the weather turned on us for the middle stretch and we missed the views from the pass — not their fault.”

“The river crossings alone were worth the price of the tour — our guide read the current like it was a map, picked a line through Jökulgilskvísl that the other super jeeps were nervous about, and made it look easy. Landmannalaugar itself is every bit as colourful as the photos suggest. We hiked Brennisteinsalda, soaked in the hot spring, and Steinunn's lamb wraps for lunch were genuinely great. Long day but every hour earned.”

“Steinunn's team made us feel safe from the moment we strapped on crampons. The ice cave itself was otherworldly — layers of volcanic ash frozen into blue ice that glowed when our headlamps hit it. The Land Cruiser was spotless and warm, the lamb soup in Vik was exactly what we needed afterwards, and the Reynisfjara stop was perfectly timed to miss the crowds. Worth every krona and then some.”
Landmannalaugar is only accessible June through mid-September. Outside those months the F-roads and rivers are closed — we run the Katla Ice Cave tour instead. Inside that window, the weather can still flip fast: we carry extra layers onboard for anyone under-dressed. River crossings are weather-dependent; in rare flood years we may substitute a different highland route at the guide's discretion.
